attending a seminar
Here are some instructions on how to attend a seminar through the EVO system.
These instructions assume that you have already read the instructions on how to
connect.
-
Start by clicking on the phyloseminar tab on the upper left corner.
If you don't see such a tab, return to the
instructions about how to connect
and read about how to join the phyloseminar group.
Your screen should now look like:
-
From there, you should see a line which describes the seminar, in this example "A phyloseminar meeting."
Double click on that line to join the meeting.
-
Some windows should open up.
You will see a window with an icon that looks like this:
Click on the two little arrows to bring up the control options, which look like this:
Choose the viewing option which suits you (I use "click to select").
-
We have found that it eats up too much bandwidth when people have their microphones and video cameras turned on.
Thus, when you show up, I will turn off your mic and video (sorry!).
If you have a question to ask the speaker, there are two options.
First is simply to write it in the messaging box:
The other is to just write "I have a question" or something and I will turn your microphone on.
If you choose to ask a question this way, please do make sure ahead of time that your microphone works and that you have the transmitting audio button clicked.
Important: if you are using speakers we will hear a booming echo!
It's best to use headphones, but if you are in a group setting (which is fun), then try to find a microphone which has an on-off switch so that you can switch it back and forth quickly.
We have not had good experiences with echo-cancelling mics.
